The Era of Taylor Swift
How Taylor Swift's Eras Tour swept Edinburgh City Centre
Whilst being far from the bright lights of Los Angeles, we are certainly no strangers to celebrity, culture and great music in Edinburgh! And as the city that hosts the world's largest performance art festival - The Edinburgh Festival Fringe - we are adept at weaving our way through the narrow streets to navigate large groups of people. Little did we know all those summers in training would lead up to this moment - Taylor Swift's The Era's Tour.
Whether you were one of the large throng fighting their way to Murrayfield Stadium over the weekend or not, it was hard not to feel it's impact - Swifties swapping beaded friendship bracelets, cafes and restaurants offering themed cocktails, ice creams and deserts, and the abundance of cowboy boots, glitter and fringed jackets!
Something we loved was the community spirit that it brought - young and old - sharing in the excitement. Many of our customers amongst them - one who even shared that she may have been more excited for the show than her own wedding day!
So was the excitement justified?
Absolutely! Undoubtedly a superstar, Taylor Swift's Era's Tour became the highest attended stadium show ever to take place in Scotland. With estimates suggesting that the tour pumped in the region of £100 million into the Scottish economy, the City went all out to welcome the star - even projecting the artwork of her latest album The Tortured Poets Department onto the walls of Edinburgh Castle for the occasion!
Speaking at one of her shows, Swift commented on the reception of the crowd - "You’re doing really excellent work here as a crowd and just being here has been one of my favourite places to be on tour and I have all of you to thank for that. You know how to make a lass feel welcome.”
Taylor, who reportedly told media that performing in Scotland "feels like coming home", performed over 3 evenings in the capital, kicking off the shows in a red, white and blue bodysuit and Louboutin boots - her first of many outfit changes throughout each evening.
What our customers were loving over the weekend
It's safe to say that Taylor Swift is never going to be a fashion innovator - her style is classic all-american girl - non-fussy and relatable. This is the enduring appeal of her - as well as her music - that she can remain relatable despite her enormous stardom and wealth. Even performing in front of thousands of people, it isn't unheard of to see her in denim, slogan tee's and sequined bodysuits. The same can be said for her fans, who couldn't get enough of our fringed denim jackets, sequins and boots:
