"I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity — all I hope for in my clothes."

Yves Saint Laurent

A key element in most - if not all wardrobes - denim is something that is here to stay. But you want to get it right. With so many washes and styles to choose from, it can be a bit of a minefield out there and very much based on personal preference. With that in mind, we have an upcoming denim guide which aims at helping you find the perfect fit of jeans for you. Until then, we want to look at some of our other denim options from jackets to skirts!

Starting at the top with shirts & blouses

A simple shirt or blouse in denim adds a relaxed, bohemian flair to your outfit. We love them worn in warmer weather slightly open and tucked into tailored trousers or matching denim jeans in a similar wash.

Not quite warm enough yet? Denim shirts lend themselves to layering with their often oversized fit and buttoned finish. Layer yours over a white t-shirt, breton stripe top or even a lightweight rollneck knit for added warmth.

In terms of blouses, there really is no competition to Seventy + Mochi. A consciously kind denim brand, Seventy + Mochi create season-less, long lasting and design-led denim pieces with a much kinder production pieces. Often incorporating unique colouring into their pieces, it's their classic blue wash denim blouses - dylan, daisy and phoebee - that really steal our hearts season after season with their frill and embroidery detail.

The cold weather essential - a denim jacket

Perfect for a warm spring day or cooler summer evening, the denim jacket has become the go-to light layer which can be effortlessly paired with colour-match denim bottoms (whether a skirt, shorts or jeans), or over a floaty printed dress.

Our most coveted styles this season are slouchier silhouettes that inspire 90s grunge cool. But we are also seeing more tailored styles coming through - with puff sleeves and pleating. Great for curvier figures, these flattering styles work with jeans and skirts to create a slimmer overall appearance.

In terms of brands, we are faithful to Scandinavian labels such as Mos Mosh, Part Two and of course denim fave Seventy + Mochi.

Denim dresses & Midi Skirts

The perfect transitional item for between seasons, denim dresses are very much on our radar. Whether looking at the beautiful Sally dresses from Seventy + Mochi - available in a number of washes and complete with decorative embroidery and ruching - or the simple classics from Part Two like the Brielle dress, which although shorter in length looks great layered over a lightweight rollneck!

Elsewhere denim skirts saw a recent surge in popularity, particularly in the longer midi-length. Designs from Part Two and Second Female can be dressed up or down and suited to whatever the weather has in store - pair with a luxe cashmere knit in the cooler months, or with a long sleeve t-shirt when the weather is a little cooler!

Dungarees & Jumpsuits

A retro-throwback, the dungaree is certainly making a combeack! We love how versatile they are - from what you layer them over to how you wear them (fastened, unfastened...) A seasonless item, they can be worn over t-shirt in sunnier climes and over long sleeve chunky knits at the height of winter!

Jumpsuits on the other hand, offer a stylish look with little effort. Accessorise with chunky jewellery, heels and a belt for a polished look or loose with trainers and caps for a relaxed, off-duty look.
